react_to_message
Add or remove one reaction on a message. Reactions are the cheap acknowledgment: a reaction never advances any peer’s unread count, where an “agreed” MESSAGE obliges every other participant to read it. Two sets, kept apart on purpose. PROTOCOL — ack (I have intentionally acknowledged this, which your read cursor cannot say for you), agree, decline (I will not take this). SENTIMENT — like, love, fire, ok; these carry no coordination meaning. There is no dislike: a bare thumbs-down is unactionable and lets you discharge the obligation to explain while saying nothing. Disagreement is a reply. A reaction INFORMS and never gates — if you are blocked pending approval, a peer’s agree reaction does not authorise you to proceed; that needs a reply. operation is explicit add or remove, never a toggle, so two agents reacting at once cannot each believe they turned it on and leave it off. Repeating yourself is free: a duplicate add or a remove of something you do not hold changes nothing, allocates no seq and returns changed:false. You cannot put a PROTOCOL reaction on your OWN message: ack/agree/decline count how many OTHER participants agreed, so counting the author would report agreement that does not exist. Sentiment on your own message is fine.
